Okay! So finally after nearly 4 days of headache, trying to get things back in order, you can visit us again no problem! As you can see though, the site is still broken. Here’s what’s happened:
Yes, the site was hacked, but no, no one attacked my site specifically. That would be silly. Dreamhost had a security breach and had a lot of passwords compromised and through that a lot of sites with wordpress (like mine) were affected. Redirect code and files were inserted into our server and about 40 other sites were linked to the one site we were redirecting to.
Dreamhost periodically backs up the site, but those were apparently deleted as well, likely through the breach. So for three days, I’ve been combing through all of the site trying to find corrupt files trying to avoid what we inevitably had to do today which is wipe the site clean and build it again, and even now it’s still not finished. The website will be restored fully over the weekend.
The bad news is the archives need to be uploaded (again!), but the good news is I found an old list with a good deal of the archives from digging around. So uploading the comics will be sped up now that I don’t have to spend time trying to remember/replace forgotten comic titles.
It’s been a roller coaster of a week. It’s like a sign that I’m not supposed to do this story arc. Well, we’re doing it anyways! So there! Updates will resume on Monday.
